Mission: “To provide compassionate financial support to families with children undergoing cancer treatment and blood and marrow transplantation at the hospital where Nick received his treatment – Doernbecher Children’s Hospital here in Portland.”

Resources Provided:
Provides urgent financial support to families who have a child in the Stem Cell Transplant Program at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon, the only Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Center in the State. This financial support helps families with the many expenses not covered by health insurance including funding for housing, medication, and related co-pays, meal and food assistance, grief support, and many other urgent needs families may encounter during this time of crisis.

Camp Ukandu

Mission: “Camp UKANDU is a planned “outrageously fun” camping experience for young people who are living with cancer. It gives these kids an opportunity to play outdoors, explore their talents, socialize with other kids, and receive the advocacy they need to feel safe, secure, and very happy. Attendance for children is free, thanks to generous donations of time by our fantastic staff and dollars from our many donors.”

-Week long camp for children living with cancer. Campers enjoy arts, crafts, weaving, boating, fishing, swimming, field games, beach play, and archery – all under the care of specially trained adult staff and 24-hour medical specialists. Siblings are welcome to attend.

Camp Milennium

Mission: “Camp Millennium is a summer camp for kids dealing with a cancer diagnosis. It is a time for them to be themselves and to share in a variety of summer camp activities, such as hiking, archery, swimming, arts and crafts, horseback riding, music and many other surprises. The goal of this week-long adventure is to provide these children with a camping experience that can be extended into their everyday lives.”

Camp Erin at Camp Kuratli

Mission: “Camp Erin allows a grieving child to be with other children who have similar feelings. It is such a relief for them to know that they are not alone.”

Resources Provided: Bereavement camp for children ages 6-17 who have experienced a death of a parent or loved one. Weekend camps are filled with traditional camp activities, as well as grief education and emotional support. Offered free of charge.

Camp Agape

Mission: “The camp programing and activities are carefully planned. Each activity is designed to encourage family bonding, to include children of all ages along with their parents. Consideration is given to cancer kid’s low immunity, allergies, and safety for all ages. The goal is to create safe, positive & happy family memories.”

-Free  5 day camp at the beginning of August that includes arts, crafts, campfires, swimming, food, and fun activities for families affected by cancer.

Mission: “Candlelighters provides frontline assistance to families of cancer patients, ages 0-21, as they battle the emotional stresses of their experiences. The connections made with other members who have been through it all and know how to help is tremendously supportive. Meetings, personal assistance and activities for families provide the outlets needed to share the fear and frustrations caused by childhood cancer.”

Portland Rescue Mission-Shepherd’s Door

Mission:The essential emergency services we offer, like food and shelter, open the door to deeper relationships with our homeless guests. From there, we’re able to offer a powerful solution to the root causes of homelessness: our New Life Ministry.

Resources Provided:
Women and children are invited to stay at the Residential addiction recovery program for women.
A 12-month residential program consisting of addiction recovery, life skills training, and spiritual renewal. Hot, delicious meals three times a day. Access to a workout facility, garden, lounge room, computer lab, clothes boutique, and more. Job and independent living training. The option to stay for another year, work for the Mission, and gain valuable experience.
