Kids in the Game

Mission: “Inspiring youth to thrive in life through sports by providing the resources that get and keep kids in the game.”

Resources Provided:
Provide financial assistance to help youth from low-income families of all abilities gain access to after school sports programs and physical education programs in schools.

Raise awareness of the importance of athletics in developing future leaders, with skills and values that transfer from the sports field into the classroom, workplace, family, and community.

Girls Incorporated

Mission: Girls Inc. of Northwest Oregon inspires girls, ages 8-18, to be strong, smart, and bold. Our gender-specific programs and research-based curricula provide girls with the confidence and self-esteem to access a bright and economically-independent future.

Services Provided:
-Girls Groups–offered at school and community sites across the greater Portland area for girls 8-18. Girls Groups meet for three 8-week terms over the school year. Each term Girls Groups cover one of our Girls Inc. curricula with their Girls Guides.

-Girls Take Off!–Rock Climbing, snow shoeing, roller derby and sailing are just a few of the adventures Girl Inc. girls can have participating in our monthly adventure series, Girls Take Off!

-Girls Council–Girls Council Girls area appointed representatives of all Girls Inc. Girls. The Girls Council serves as advisors and spokeswomen for Girls Inc. of NW Oregon and serves for a 1-year term. Meet the Girls Council.

-Trainings–trainings offered for adults and children.

-Summer Programs–week long Girl Power camps in partnership with YWCA of Greater Portland. Counselors lead activities from our Allies in Action program and girls get to put their new skills into action on daily afternoon adventures.

-Communicare–designed to teach young girls about philanthropy.

Goals:
-Create meaningful, supportive peer groups that encourage female solidarity
-Grow self-esteem that carries over to home, school, and the community
-Develop sound decision-making and communication skills
-Assert themselves as confident individuals throughout their lives
-Build key leadership skills and strong work ethics
